Goode "30-Second" ski reviews: 2008

Carbon 68
While not as heavy or demanding of energetic input as the average cross ski, the 68may be an excellent choice for groomed-snow skiers who desire a wide range of utility. the ski is non-demanding and, like the entire line, extremely light. Stability can be a problem at extreme speed on hard snow, but the ski remains very stable for its heft at anything that could be considered reasonable recreational speed.

Carbon 74
The 74 received mixed reviews; testers either loved it or hated it. We suspect that the reason for the wide range of opinion relates to the category this ski is in. Most 74mm all mountain skis, even Salomon's, feel very different in terms of heft, weight and perceived ability to overcome deflection. Anyone interested in this model should definitely take a test ride.

Carbon 82
As is the case with the 74, reviews were spread across a wide spectrum. Again, the unique "feel" of this light ski in the company of other brand's powerful-feeling wide rides may account for the syndrome. We also suspect that the cleaner the modern technique, the better the ski feels, although it displayed a good ability to ride a soft edge at reasonable speed.

Carbon 95
This model received the best overall reviews within the Goode line. Probably by dint of its extreme light weight (and, yet again, surprising stability) the Goode brand may well make its initial mark with this extremely user-friendly deep snow ski. Gone are the Pocket Rocket and Volant CHUBB and the 95 is well positioned to fill the "civilized" powder ski niche.

Vision 96
Save for the turned up tail—which can present problems on truly steep terrain or during technical skiing on hard snow—this ski performs much like the 95. The difference is that this ski may be more forgiving at all but the highest levels of powder skiing. Call it "powder cruising," as opposed to fearsome steep and deep.

Monstro
Powerful, energetic, totally committed backside deep snow skiers only. Extremely focused ski.
