K2 "30-Second" ski reviews: new for 2008

Apache Crossfire

Apache Crossfire
With 2mm added to tip, waist and tail, the revamped Crossfire is even more versatile than last year's model. Turn radius remains the same, the ski now skis more smoothly and is effective in moderate off-piste conditions. Solid 1-ski quiver for skiers who ski mostly the groomed with a technical bent, but who want a wider performance envelope than the old model offered.

Apache Recon

Apache Raider
Recon lite! Soft, user friendly, lacks the Recon's powerful top end. For lighter and less aggressive skiers. Good first "all mountain" ski for level 6/7 skiers.

Apache X

One Luv
Solid 1-ski quiver for females who spend most of the time on the groomed, but who want all-mountain versatility. Stable, damp, smooth, reasonably quick edge to edge. Strong performance on the groomed and on hard surfaces.

Moto SL Comp

Sweet Luv
Middle-of-the-road cruiser. May be suitable to skiers with few technical aspirations of those just beginning to work on technical skills, but likely can be outgrown. The One Luv may be the better choice for most skiers.

Omni 5.5

Coomba
Designed by and named for the late Doug Coombs, certainly among the best steep and deep skiers ever, the Coomba is remarkably versatile for a big mountain monster. It has an unique tip design to improve stability and float in broken snow, while retaining above average carving ability for such a wide ski. Forget bumps, but the Coomba is near the top of the list for serious, competition level free ride skis, especially if one has to get to and from the deep by traveling inbounds. A major hit with our more adventurous test crew members.

T9 Burnin' Luv

Phat Luv
Now even phatter! More sidecut, slightly heavier. Most testers considered it a better ski overall than previous model. Should continue as a favorite for strong female backside and powder skiers.
