Nordica "30-Second" ski reviews: new for 2008

 
Gransport 14
Probably the best value on-piste ski in Nordica's line. It significantly outperforms its (relatively) modest price point and should satisfy all but the fastest, heaviest and most aggressive skiers. Ideally suited to skiers actively working on building basic technical skills and a great teaching ski.

 
Olympia Firefox
Superb female-specific carving tool, including developing carving skills. "Zippy rocket of a ski! A keeper!", according to one enthusiastic test skier. Wide tip initiates easily, tapered tail allows turn shape change. Holds and carves like a race slalom, but is much less demanding.

 
Gransport 12
Likely to retail for even less than the 14, but limited technical performance removes it from consideration for all but casual, occasional skiers. The 14 will be a better choice for most subscribers.

 
Olympia Mint
Suitable to improving technical skiers, although can be outgrown fairly quickly if speeds increase. OK for leisure and sometimes skiers on vacation; probably better to demo than to buy.

 
Hot Rod Hellcat
As one test skier put it perfectly, "These are big boy skis!" The Hellcat, now topping the Hot Rod collection, is the real deal. Big, powerful, demanding, stable and most at home in the wild backside. Does handle well on the groomed for a super-plank. Lighter or less energetic skiers will do better elsewhere.

 
Olympia Drive
A top notch"1-ski-quiver" for females either changing to cross under technique or improving carving skills. Well at home on the groomed, fairly good in bumps and capable of off-piste crud busting and chop slicing. Not for aggressive or extremely fast skiers, the Drive is a great "transition" ski for those who are focused on skill building and venturing into non-groomed terrain.
